Hastings Pirate Day 2012.

On Sunday 22nd July 2012 the people of Hastings & beyond attempted to gain a new world record for the amount of pirates in one place, at one time.
This is my record of the main part of the day.
I won't spoil your fun & give you the result, just in case you don't know the end of the story.

Here's the official website: http://hastingspirateday.org.uk/

Don't you wish that you lived here?

  1. Congratulations, no ordinary achievement getting 14,000+ pirates in one place at the same time. Being ornery and independent, I'd imagine it's worse than herding cats, though maybe the peg legs make them easier to control.

The pirate who set the standard for me was the gravelly voiced Robert Newton in the television series "The Adventures of Long John Silver," first broadcast in the mid-fifties. I don't remember much about the series itself, although I don't imagine there was much raping and pillaging going on since I remember watching it after school.

I didn't know it at the time but Newton had already died of a heart attack before the series was shown in Canada. Too much grog apparently.
